BTW...how cool is my wife. She got me 5th row tickets to see Def Leppard, Styxx and Foreigner. That's a cool a** concert!!!! Styx is not Styx without Dennis DeYoung. Styx actually played at our county fairgrounds last year only about 5 miles from where I live, and I wouldn't go, even though I have a lot of their albums, because DeYoung's not with them. Yeah, I'm an elitist rock snob. Good call on Rush, by the way, although I think their influence ultimately comes from Led Zep. Listen to their first three albums or so and it's real obvious.

Yeah, I do know he isn't with them. Wish he was, but it still has Def Leppard and Foreigner! ;D

My 2 and half year old daughter loves listening to the classic rock channels on satelitte radio. She especially likes Fleetwood Mac so I went out and purchased a Fleetwood Mac CD for her. This was my first time ever buying anything by them probably because I've heard the same six songs of theirs played so much on the radio over the years. The CD wasn't bad and I actually dont mind listening to it. It goes to show you that classic rock is timeless and we never stop learning even from our little kids.

KISS.
There is a belief among non Kiss fans that they suck as a band or that their music isn't up to gold standard. If that were the case, no gimmick would be able to keep them afloat for thirty years.
KISS simply puts on the best show that I have ever witnessed live. They understand the fact that people listen to rock music to have fun and not for the "art" of it.

I voted for Zeppelin, they are amazing!
I never think of the Beatles as being a "rock" band, maybe because I hear them too much on the local oldies station. But when I think of ROCK, I think Zeppelin, Sabbath, The Who, etc. The Beatles are a great band though, no doubt. Just not a great rock band to me.

Harker's right about Kiss. Granted, when it comes to rock "virtuosos" at their instruments or on vocals, the only one people might consider is Frehley (or at least that's all I would, but maybe I'm in the minority). But they certainly don't suck all around. Rock music isn't just about the music, it's about the immersion in the experience. And that's something Kiss has provided massive amounts of, way more and in different ways than most bands.
As for their influence, if anyone saw the episode of Gene Simmons' Family Jewels where Scott Ian of Anthrax acted like a total fanboy at his house, that ought to be an indication of how a lot of their peers see them. I'm sure Ian's not alone.

I'm sure Ian's not alone. I think what really turned me off from kiss was my older sister. We used to have a stereo battle between our bedrooms. She would blast Kiss records and I would fight back with AC DC Highway To Hell or Queens News of The World. I do see your point though

All favorites of mine but I will always be partial to KISS. On a side note, Ace Frehley once said "If I'd known that I was going to be such an influence to all of these future musicians, I would have practiced more." No need, Ace was one of the five best rock guitarists as voted by his fellow musicians a few years ago.

It all depends on the era of rock music. But, if I had to stick with this list, I'd go with the Rolling Stones. I believe they influence mutliple genres within rock. The Rolling Stones seem to influence your indie bands as well as your metal and basic rock/alternative bands. I could even suggest they might have had a slight influence on punk music, but I doubt I can cite that case.

Of those listed, even though they're not favorites of mine, have to give it to the Beatles.
Rush was very Zeppelin inspired early on in their music careers, but their sound changed quite a bit in the 80's and then again in the 90's.
It's a crime that Hendrix wasn't on there.
If solo acts counted I would have to say Elvis.

Agreed, but I saw them once with DeYoung and once with...whatever his name is...and even though the DeYoung show was 10X better, the non-DeYoung show was still good. I noticed they did a lot more Tommy Shaw tunes that that one.

They did an acoustic show and what I was told it was pretty good
