I went with the Beatles. I'd imagine the further we go away from the Beatles era, the fewer ammount of singers will say they were influenced by them. Thing is, the people that influenced the new singers were probably influenced by the Beatles anyway. I remember when George Harrison died there was an article in the paper about how much the Beatles had influenced rock. Somebody wrote in an editorial saying that they didn't influence rock at all, they were a pop band. It annoyed me a lot because I know of country singers who have the Beatles on their list of influences. When you're talking influences, it really doesn't matter what genre you're in (look at Elvis, he was all over the map). If you want an answer from me other then the Beatles, you might have to define "rock" music to me. I always assumed it started with Bill Haley and the Comets back int he 50's I also tip my hat to Queen.

Aerosmth. They just keep getting better.
But, my favorite band is the Red Hot Chili Peppers.
More recently, Creed.

Agreed, but I saw them once with DeYoung and once with...whatever his name is...and even though the DeYoung show was 10X better, the non-DeYoung show was still good. I noticed they did a lot more Tommy Shaw tunes that that one. Tommy Shaw just played here in town this week with a member of Night Ranger. They did an acoustic show and what I was told it was pretty good It was probably Jack Blades. They were both in Damn Yankees, along with Ted Nugent, and then they broke off to form ShawBlades for an album or two in the mid-90's.

I lost what little respect I had left for them when they shared the stage at the Super Bowl with Britney and Justin. Sellouts. 2 exalts for RHCP. One of the few bands left on my "must see live" list 1 smite for Creed. I try to say "to each their own", but AYFKM? . So, all in all, you break even.
