Match #7: Road Warriors vs Bruiser Brody and Steve "Dr. Death" Williams (managed by Killer Kowalski) in a Hell in a Cell match.
-After many violent battles between each other, these two enemy teams came into tonight's Hell in a Cell match determined to finish each other off in this feud-ending match.
In this match, Animal mostly fought Brody while Hawk mostly fought Dr. Death. Animal got a major advantage early over Brody because he hit him with a series of spike piledrivers. Meanwhile, Hawk (who started bleeding early after Williams smashed him face-first into the cell) and Williams were trading offense against each other and they both started to climb the walls of the Cell while battling each other. But when they both arrived near the top of the Cell, Williams gave Hawk a strong elbow smash that sent Hawk crashing to the floor. But after Williams climbed down after him, Hawk regained control of the match and proceeded to smash Williams' head into all four sides of the cell which caused Williams to bleed heavily. As Hawk continued to pummel Williams, Animal gave Brody (who he dominated throughput this match) a flying shoulder ram for the pinfall victory to make the Road Warriors the decisive winners in their feud with Brody and Williams.
After the Road Warriors were announced as the winners, Kowalski (the former manager of the Road Warriors) entered the cell and attempted to attack Hawk and Animal from behind. But Hawk caught Kowalski and smashed him into the side of the cell. Kowalski was then given a double clothesline from Hawk and Animal who then, to the cheers of the crowd, proceeded to finish off Kowalski with a DOOMSDAY DEVICE.
Winners: Road Warriors
Match #8: Frank Gotch vs United States Champion Harley Race in a ladder match.
Race began this match by heading straight for the ladder but Gotch prevented him from doing this by giving Race a double leg takedown and then proceeding to smash Race's head repeatedly into the ladder. Gotch controlled most of this match and had Race clearly in trouble when George Hackenschmidt, from Race's faction the Four Horsemen, suddenly appeared. Hackenschmidt tried to attack Gotch from behind with a clothesline but Gotch ducked and Hackenschmidt smashed hard into the ladder instead. Gotch then threw Hackenschmidt out of the ring where he crumpled to the floor. Gotch continued working over Race and appeared set to win the match by climbing the ladder to grab the United States Championship when the Valentines- also fellow members of Race's faction the Four Horsemen- ran down to the ring and attacked Gotch. After double teaming Gotch, the Valentines left the ringside area as a smiling Race then grabbed the ladder and began climbing it to get the United States Championship. But before Race could reach the belt, Gotch managed to kick the ladder over and Race, in the process of falling to the mat, got clotheslined by the top rope. Gotch then went over to Race and applied his GOTCH TOEHOLD as Race tried to tap to signal his submission. Although Race's tapping out did not end the match, Race was still too weakened from Gotch's finishing hold to prevent Gotch from immediately going up the ladder and grabbing the belt to win the United States Championship!
Winner: Frank Gotch. Gotch wins the United States Championship.
Backstage: MLW Chairman Bruno Sammartino is in his office when Mr. Canada (Billy "Red" Lyons) walks in.
Mr. Canada: "Bruno Sammartino, after my victory over the Boogie Woogie Man earlier tonight, me and my millions of Canadian fans demand that I, Mr. Canada, receive a spot in the Royal Rumble so I can have a right to earn a main event title shot at Wrestlemania."
Sammartino: "I agree with you Mr. Canada. In fact you might even have a title match at the Royal Rumble! On the next edition of NWA:NITRO, I am taking the 3 singles winners of tonights non-championship matches- that's D**k Hutton, Rick Rude, and you Mr. Canada- and putting you 3 in a triple threat elimination # 1 contenders match. The winner of this match of Hutton vs Rude vs Mr. Canada will then challenge the winner of tonight's title match between Dan Severn and Buddy Rogers for the MLW Championship at the Royal Rumble! The two losers of this match on the next edition of NWA:NITRO will then be automatically inserted into the Royal Rumble."
Mr. Canada starts grinning as he just learned he will have 2 upcoming opportunities to win a title match.
Backstage: Harley Race walks up to fellow Four Horsemen member and MLW Champion Buddy Rogers.
Race: "Buddy, you told me the Horsemen would be there tonight to back me up in my match vs Gotch. Well they did not get the job done and now I have lost the United States Championship!"
Rogers: "I sent out Hackenschmidt and the Valentines. But Harley I can't help it if you can't climb the ladder to win that match."
Race: "Why didn't you also come out to help me yourself?"
Rogers: "Because I have to focus on defending my MLW Championship tonight against former MMA star Dan "the Beast" Severn in a Four Weapons of Destruction match. I don't have time to worry about your secondary title."
Race: "Buddy there is going to come a time when I get my shot at the title and if you are the one holding it at that time, our association together in the Four Horsemen won't hold me back."
Race then walks off as the announcers comment that it looks like there might be tensions forming within the Four Horsemen between Buddy Rogers and Harley Race.
Match #9: Dan "The Beast" Severn vs MLW Champion Buddy Rogers in a Four Weapons of Destruction match (using chart in Ringside Companion 2107).
-Before the match began, ring announcer Gary Michael Cappetta reminded fans that in this match both wrestler are allowed to use four weapons: a steel chain, barbed wire, a stun rod, and a turnbuckle with electric shocks.
Despite the hardcore nature of this match, Severn and Rogers started off wrestling scientifically and impressively managed to counter each other's moves for the first few minutes. The action continued to shift back and forth with neither Severn or Rogers getting a clear advantage and with both men preventing their opponent from reaching any of the weapons. But then Severn was unable to execute a hip toss against Rogers who then grabbed the chain which he placed around Severn's neck. As Rogers was using the chain to choke Severn, he then used the chain to whip the Beast headfirst into the turnbuckle with the barbed wire on it. Rogers then gave Severn an elbow drop followed by a jumping knee smash ad then his FIGURE FOUR GRAPEVINE which caused Severn to tap out.
Winner: Buddy Rogers. Rogers retains the MLW Championship.
Four Horsemen members Hackenschmidt and the Valentines come out and help Rogers celebrate his victory. But Race is conspicuous by his absence. As the show comes to an end, the announcers again ask just how cohesive are the Four Horsemen now and remind everyone to tune in again next weekend for an episode of AWA:RAW and then for NEW Years Revolution which will be presented by MLW's AWA brand.
